It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the official webpage of Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding (IFGTB). The Institute envisions a wood-secure society. Our vision is to enhance socio-economic conditions of tree growers, secure genetic stock of tree resources and enhancement of forest productivity. Our approach is participatory research for development. The Institute conducts national level research on the subjects of Genetics and Tree Breeding, Plant Biotechnology & Cytogenetics. Bioprospecting, Forest Protection, Silviculture, Climate Change and Forest Genetic Resources. One of the core mandates is also to attend to the local forestry problems of the States of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Pondicherry. In addition the Institute encourages collaborative research with other Government Departments, Universities, Institutions, Industry and other Agencies.
